TITLE: The Four Stages of Learning
ARTIST: Paul Pearman
LOCATION: 1430 John Wesley Gilbert Dr, Augusta GA 30901
DESCRIPTION: The Four Stages of Learning was envisioned as a representation of a student’s 4 year progression into a developing dental professional. Commissioned by a private patron for the Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) School of Dentistry (SOD), the sculpture fills the atrium. The bottom tier is a small budding clock representing the beginning of their journey and the time ahead , at each progressing tier the learning blooms and opens up a little more at each stage until the final umbrella-like fourth tier encompasses all of the other stages. The 28-foot Mosaic Chandelier has a stainless steel skeleton, encased in sculpted foam, the outer mosaic is a 4-color graduation of glass with three textures ranging from smooth, to iridized, and crinkle all bordered by hand-forged metal. The interior mosaic is three shades of blue mirrored glass swirling into the center of the sculpture. Each interior mosaic is illuminated by hidden LED lighting from the tier below.
