TITLE: "Jealousy" ARTIST: Byzantine Period (395A.D. - 635 A.D.) LOCATION: The National Museum of Beirut DESCRIPTION: The "Jealousy" Mosaic has a Greek Inscription, from the Byzantine Period (395A.D. - 635 A.D.)
Size: H:124 x L:253.5.
This mosaic decorated the entrance of a rich house located at the heart of Byzantine beirut. The Purpose of the inscription:"Envy is a great evil; however, it has some beauty/ for it consumes the eyes and the heart of the jealous" Was to protect the inhabitants against envy and evil.
