TITLE: The Secret Garden
ARTIST: Becky Santora, Lead Mosaicist
LOCATION: 68 Elm Street, Summit
DESCRIPTION: This mosaic project, led by Becky Santora with help from Lisbeth Hamlin, Diane Ponticello, Christine Moulton, and Carolyn McCullough, is titled the Secret Garden -- an entire room bursting with something to marvel at from every vantage point. The mosaic is located at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit, NJ. Three-dimensional birds rest on a branch above the bathroom mirror, rabbits dance in unison across the floor under the sink, an exquisitely patterned field of hand-built ceramic tiles, complete with tractor and barn dominates one wall. The sky is grouted in glow in the dark grout generously donated by Laticrete. There is even an artist’s rendition of a world money tree with coins representing more than 80 countries decorating the branches of the tree – all the coins were given by Visual Art Center members – their own contribution to the Secret Garden. Visitors are welcome, the mosaic is installed in a unisex bathroom.
