TITLE: Massachussetts Flag

LOCATION: Town Hall, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue
DESCRIPTION: This miniature 4" x 7" mosaic of the Massachusetts Flag is an impressionistic interpretation of the state flag. It may be seen at the Town Hall in Lexington, Massachussetts. On a white background is a blue shield emblazoned with the image of Native American, Massachuset. He holds a bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. The arrow is pointing downward representing peace. The white star represents Massachusetts as one of the original thirteen states. Around the shield is a blue ribbon with the motto: "By the Sword We Seek Peace, but Peace Only Under Liberty". Above the shield an arm and sword represent the first part of the motto.
