TITLE: Multi-panel Mosaic at Entrance to Flight Cage
ARTIST: Steve Strickland & Mary Brong
LOCATION: St. Louis Zoo, entrance to Flight Cage
DESCRIPTION: Mosaic completed in 2004 as part of the Zoo's renovation of the flight cage to commemorate the 100 anniversary of the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, where the flight cage was unveiled. The mosaic is over 5ft high and 54 ft long and made of natural stone, marbles, quartz and tile. Design and Cartoon by Steve Strickland and Mary Brong; fabrication done by zoo keepers, donors, children and volunteers. The design continues above and below the mosaic with sculptured concrete.
